Winter, spring, summer or
fall, you can do as much or as little as you
wish in the Mad River Valley. Here is just a
sampling of recreational activities in the
Valley. For a more comprehensive list of
things to do and see, visit

Skiing
Vermont is the proud home
of six mountain peaks over 4000'. The Mad
River Valley is home to three of these peaks
in a short eleven-mile ridge, and two of
Vermont’s premier ski resorts, Sugarbush and
Mad River Glen. There are also several cross
country ski areas in the local vicinity,
including Ole’s Cross Country Center, and
the Mad River Path, a 6-mile community path
that’s accessible from the 1824 House.

Hiking and Walking
The Mad River Valley
offers some outstanding hikes, from simple
to strenuous and with outstanding mountain
vistas. The hike up Lincoln peak (2-4 hours)
takes you to one of Vermont’s highest peaks
and offers 360 degree views stretching from
the Adirondacks to Mount Washington. Camels
Hump, Mount Ellen, Stark Mountain, and
Sunset Ledge are some of the best hikes in
the state. |

The Inn is located
directly on the Mad River Path. This is a
community path maintained and funded by
local volunteers. The path is flat and
meanders along the Mad River providing
beautiful views, great fishing
opportunities, and some swimming. The path
is approximately 6 miles long, open year
round, except during hunting season, and is
available to walkers, runners, mountain
bikers and hikers. |

Cycling
The Valley is quite known
for offering some exceptional biking
opportunities, with road rides of 10 to well
over 100 miles and routes ranging from flat
paths to challenging mountain passes. The
East Warren Road loop (20 miles) is one of
the prettiest in the state and should not be
missed. Mountain biking is also quite
popular in the Valley, with challenging and
gentle terrain both available.
We know the area quite
well and would be happy to provide guidance,
maps, advice, and vehicle backup in case of
problems. Give us a call for ideas and let
us help you plan a couple of fun days.

Golfing
If golf is your sport we
have a Swing and Stay discount package that
may interest you. Sugarbush Golf Club is a
Robert Trent Jones Sr., masterpiece,
described by Golf Digest as "the essence of
a mountain course." Constructed in 1962, the
course, with its breath-taking scenery,
twelve doglegs, numerous blind shots, uneven
lies and demanding greens, creates a unique
challenge.
Call 800-426-3986 to
discuss tee times and golf cancellation
policies, as well as any package deals we
may be having at the time. |
