Pets

Meet the four legged, furry inn hosts who reside upstairs in the private owner's quarters. Please let us know if you have allergies. Have no fear, the dogs and cat do not ever enter into the guest rooms. If you are highly sensitive and allergic, you'd best not book the Franklin or Caledonia rooms as the resident animal companions do go up and down the stairs in that wing of the inn.

Gemma is our 13 year old Senior Black Lab Extraordinaire who is known for helping with the chores. Her "best pet trick " is carrying the emptied recycle container in her mouth while trotting back from the dumpster to the inn's kitchen storage area. We keep asking, "When will she learn to help carry it out when it's full?" She can frequently be found by the front ramp to The Barn, patiently waiting quietly for anyone and everyone to give her a pet (and hoping to find any food crumbs magically appearing in the grass or snow).

Gertie and Alice, the lovable 5 year old Labrador Retriever sisters named after Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. Gertie simply cannot possibly ever get enough attention. Alice is the more gentle, omega girl who loves to lean in for pets and is quick to offer her paw if she likes you.

JJ, our 5 year old Maine Coon Cat, is quite the affectionate, very large boy who loves belly rubs and keeps "the girls" in line. He is truly a fun cat with a funny personality and has a true Southern disposition--which is where he was born (South Carolina).

Other critters frequently spotted on our property: a flock of wild turkeys (who have so far evaded the hunters), a woodchuck (otherwise known as a groundhog and no friend of farmers), spring peepers (frogs) that live in the pond and a variety of birds. Come explore and see what else might be in the woods, pond, pastures and fields.
